How to KonMari Your Next Move
March 29, 2019
Marie Kondo is sweeping the nation with her easy tutorials for how to simplify your life. Many people are raving over their newly organized drawers and closets by following her decluttering and organizing rules. So, we thought it would be fun to talk through how you could use the KonMari method when getting ready for your next move. Here are some of the steps.
- Start with Clothes
Donate any clothes, purses, shoes and jackets that do not bring you joy. After you decide on the few you would like to keep, fold them and put away using the below folding method.
- Overhaul Your Entryway
Ensure your entryway is decluttered and incorporates essential things you need (and your guests need) when you enter or exit your home.
- Clean Out Your Desk
Shred or throw away any unused papers or books.
- Clear Shelves
Look at the shelves in your living room and dining rooms, if they don’t bring you joy or serve a function – get rid of them.
- Simplify Your Routine
Look at the products in your bathroom to see if you really need every product on your vanity and in your drawers. Many of us hoard these kinds of items in hopes of one day using them. But, now is the time to donate unused items to a local organization.
- Tackle Your Linen Closet
Throw away towels, washcloths and bath mats that aren’t functional anymore or that don’t bring you joy. Homeless shelters can always use extra towels and wash cloths, so clear out your home and help your local community
- Start on Your Kitchen
After you a have gone through your closets, bathroom, entryway and closets – tackle your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. You know which things you really don’t need. Donate or sell large value items.
