While St. Paul may be the capital of Minnesota, it’s often eclipsed by its larger nearby sister city Minneapolis. But when the moving dust settles on your relocation to St. Paul/Minneapolis, make sure to check out the four main attractions in the state’s capital:
State Capitol Building
Be sure to visit the Minnesota State Capitol Building, an architectural masterpiece by any standard. Its white marble dome and blue-painted interior make up one of the world’s largest unsupported marble domes. Visitors can explore the inner workings of the Capitol Building and even see the legislature in action.
Cathedral of St. Paul
You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the beauty of the St. Paul Cathedral that stands in prominence overlooking the city of St. Paul. Opened in 1915, it is the fourth tallest church in the United States.The 186 foot dome and dozens of stained glass windows make for a breathtaking look at one of St. Paul’s oldest churches. The cathedral is open to the public daily from 7am to 7pm.
Minnesota History Center
The Minnesota History Center if full of exhibits, programs, and events for people of all ages. Experience the thrill of a simulated tornado, explore Minnesota history, or be transported back to an old-fashioned speakeasy at the “Bootlegger’s Ball” in the fall.
Home of James J. Hill
The house built by famous railroad tycoon James J. Hill is one of the most fascinating residences in American history. The paints a picture of the amazing vision of one of our country’s most prominent builders of the railroad. Be sure to take the tour and see the beautiful river view from its back yard.
