4 Steps to Stress Free Moving
May 4, 2016
Here’s the truth, moving can be stressful. But, a lot of times we do things that cause more chaos than calm. So, take some tried and true advice from some of our experts to ensure you’re not biting off more than you can chew for your upcoming move.
Leave Whitespace in Your Calendar
Two to three weeks before and after a move is not the time to take on anything extra – it’s actually a good time to move many obligations out of the picture. If you have kids, it might mean scaling down extracurricular activities, opting out of volunteering or canceling book club. Leave extra downtime in your schedule – even block it off, so it doesn’t get filled up. Know this transition will probably take more of your time and energy than you would like to admit and plan ahead for it.
Don’t Ask Your Friends to Help You Move
Yes, we are professional movers – but we are also friends, family members, spouses, moms and dads. And we all know the real truth – our friends really don’t want to help us move. They just don’t – it’s not fun for you and it’s not fun for them. There isn’t enough pizza or beer that will make it worth it for them. Not to mention the risk of injury when they’re lifting your heavy things – just call a pro.
Plan, Plan and Plan Some More
There are some really great resources out there to help you get organized before a move. A few great tips from our team are available on our Pinterest page. You really can’t over-plan. Ask your moving company for tips, checklists, timelines and resources to help you get prepared for the move ahead.
Schedule Fun
A few days after your move, you will be going full-speed to get settled. Don’t lose sight of your health and well being by intentionally scheduling some fun things in between the work. Visit a new park that’s close by, try a new yoga studio, go work out, go to a new coffee shop and read a book in the morning. Even though it’s tempting to just get settled in at rapid speed, it can make the whole process stressful. Look at your plan and schedule in extra time for some laughs, fun or rejuvenation.
