Moving to an Apartment
February 20, 2014
Living in an apartment brings many benefits, like being able to move again without fear of losing money on closing costs and realtor fees. Apartment living is a great option for many, but you still have to get all your things into your new space. As you prepare to move to your new apartment in Chicago, here are some tips to help keep your moving day a positive day for both you and your movers.
Take measurements
The last thing you want is for your movers to carry up the sofa three flights of stairs and then not be able to get it through the door because it’s too big. To avoid this type of situation, make sure to measure your doorways and compare them with your existing furniture. While you’re at it, make sure there is enough space in each room for your existing furniture. If it comes down to it, it’s a lot easier to sell a couch and buy a new one than finding that right apartment based on your furniture.
Book your elevator
If your apartment building allows and has access to a freight elevator, you might want to see if you can book it for your move. This will save your movers time and plenty of aches.
Utilize a storage locker
Most apartments offer a small storage locker where you can store some of your things and have access to them any hour of the day. Plan what you would like to put in this locker before you move, and clearly mark this on the box so that you don’t have to move these items twice.
