Moving to Kansas City: Hyde Park Neighborhood Review
January 12, 2012
Are you considering a move to Kansas City? Before you call your Kansas City mover, you should take time to investigate the various neighborhoods in which you might live. There is a diverse list to choose from, all with different histories and amenities to offer. Consider Hyde Park, a rejuvenated neighborhood that is now a special place to live.
After World War II, many people moved out of the community, and the large houses were converted into apartments and sleeping rooms. The neighborhood declined until the 1970s. It was then that one-third of the houses changed hands, and people began to invest in the area. Nearly all the houses are now back to being single family residences.
This historic neighborhood is located between Armour Boulevard and 47th Street to the north/south, and between GIllham Road and Troost Avenue to the east/west. Hyde Park has a natural spring, a cave, and a stream, and served as a watering hole for pioneers heading West on the Santa Fe Trail.
The architecture ranges from Victorian, Colonial Revivals, Craftsman, Prairie, Shingle, and Bungalow. Hyde Park has seven buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, and features parts of the George E. Kessler park system. Some of the city’s most influential citizens have lived in Hyde Park, including Walt Disney.
Located in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, Hyde Park is just minutes from the Plaza, Crown Center, the Cultural Center and Union Station.
A history buff or architecture lover would be comfortable in Hyde Park. If that is you, feel confident calling your Kansas City mover and telling them your destination of Hyde Park.
