How to Organize Your Laundry Area

Have you ever peeked in your sock drawer and realized that most of your socks are missing their mates? Have your coworkers been mentioning your mismatched socks? Where did all those socks go? Are they really “missing,” or are they just collecting dust bunnies somewhere in the space behind your washer and dryer? It’s helpful to have a clean, well-organized laundry space especially after making a move into a home with a laundry area. Here are a few tips to help you help you start your new home off on the right foot.
Detergents, stain removers, fabric softeners: any legit laundry space will have it’s fair share of bottles and tools, so it’s best to keep them organized. Making sure your heavier bottles of detergent are in a reachable distance to your washing machine will make for less spills. Try opting for the new pod detergents that can be placed in decorative jars to insure accurate measurement with less braun.
Place all of the smaller bottles and sticks in a sturdy basket so that’s easily within reach. If you have a labeler at home, label the contents of the basket for less guessing of its contents. Even if you don’t have a flashy labeler, masking tape and a Sharpie can go a long way.
If you’re one that loves to separate your clothing into colors, white, and towels, there are many options. Try finding a rolling laundry basket that has three separate bins, or makeshift your own brackets to hold up separate laundry baskets. Try to pick something that takes the least amount of storage space, especially if you don’t have a large laundry area.
Keep a “lost and found” basket to catch all the odds and ends you find while loading laundry: those single socks or lost buttons. If you stick with it, this system is sure to come in handy next time your spouse goes looking for their missing button!
