Transportation Options in Chicago
September 17, 2014
Current residents of the Windy City will testify that it’s not the friendliest place in the world to drive, so moving to the bustling city might be a change. In fact, some would say that it’s the most traffic-congested city in the nation. To combat this, Chicago has a variety of way to get from “Point A” to “Point B” without owning or driving a car.
The CTA “L” (train service.) Many Chicagoans forego the car and replace it with a daily train ride. With over 140 stations throughout Chicago and its suburbs, the trains cover a lot of ground. Although the trains are reasonably cheap and usually reliable, the downside is that you can’t control the amount of traffic and potential delays.
CTA buses. The buses in Chicago serve about 12,000 stops throughout the city. Many of the routes run 24/7, referred to as the “Owl Service.”
Biking. Riding around the city on two wheels is an awesome way to get a great workout and keep your metabolism up throughout the day. Just be sure to give yourself a little more time than you would in a car. And many don’t know it, but you can actually take your bike with you on CTA buses and trains. So even if you have to take a train into the city, you can still bring your bike along and pedal your way around all day.
Taking a cab. While it may cost you a little more, booking or calling a taxi is a bit more personalized means of transportation. What you pay for in rates, though, you make up for in not having to wait for someone else’s stop.
