How to Give Gifts on a Budget
If you are planning a move this holiday season, your budget is probably already maxed out, and gifts may not fit into the plan, even if you found a reasonably priced Milwaukee mover. What can you do? There are lots of ideas for gifts that cost little or nothing, and can rescue you from not having a gift.
1. Give coupons. Use a word processing program to create coupons for your loved ones. Maybe it is book of date night ideas, or a book of activities you could do with your kids. They just pull out a coupon and ask for it to be redeemed. Choose coupons that are unique to the recipient’s special interests.
2. Give privileges. Kids will love this. Fill their stocking with special privileges that they can claim. Give them the chance to stay up late, to not do a certain detested chore, or to decide what’s for dinner.
3. Give handmade gifts. What special talent do you have? Can you play the guitar? Record yourself playing a special song for your loved ones. Are you an artist or a writer? Make a set of ornaments, or write a poem.
4. Give homemade food. If you can bake, make special gifts in the kitchen. Candies, cookies, and homemade cocoa mixes are always a hit.
5. Give the offer to do chores. Do you know of a chore that your mom needs help with, like cleaning out the garage, or having the oil changed in her car? Snoop around and look for projects that your family or friends have half finished. Maybe someone needs the deck stained, or the gutters cleaned out. Offer to do something that will take a burden off of someone’s plate.
6. Offer to babysit. This is a big gift for busy parents. They won’t know what to do with themselves if they actually have a night off without having to pay a sitter.
Although moving might be a portion of your December budget, there are gifts you can afford to give. Just get creative and give of your time!
