November 6, 2012
Once you call your Milwaukee mover or your local moving company – it’s best to start thinking about your moving budget. If you’re moving with a company that amount might be pre-determined. If you’re moving on your own, it’s ideal to come up with a figure for how much you can afford to spend on your moving costs. If you’re moving from state-to-state hiring a moving company, is usually an expense that you want to account for in your budget. After the moving company, there are numerous other things that can add up spontaneously, that’s why we made this list of things you should never pay for.
Your Checking Account
When you move to a new city, you might have to change banks. Don’t settle for an account service that requires a monthly payment. There’s too much healthy competition happening in the banking industry right now, so research your options and never settle for less than FREE checking.
WiFi
If you’re working on-the-go, it might be tempting to just pay a $10 monthly fee for WiFi – but, with the way most cities are wired these days, that’s really not necessary. Download apps like Free WiFi Finder and search your local area for places where you can plug into the Internet free of charge.
Phone Info Services (4-1-1): Gone are the days when people dial 4-1-1 and get charged a flat fee for finding a phone number. Now, you have more options:
- Use your free Wifi app to get online a search for a number via the Internet
- Use 1-800-Free-411 and you will not get charged for the information call – just be prepared to sit through a few ads
News
A lot of local newspapers are requiring online subscription fees, but if you’re thrifty – you can use other sources to find out about local happenings. Including the Facebook pages of local news and radio stations. Also, national sources like The Huffington Post are always free.
A Credit Report
At some point during the move process, you might be asked to provide a credit report. Note that under federal law, you are able to obtain a free credit report from annualcreditreport.com each year. So, don’t get doped into paying for one on another website.
