Beltmann Basics: 15 moving hacks to make your life easier

We’ve searched online to find out what our customers are doing to make their move as painless as possible. If you can’t afford to have us pack you up (obviously the easiest and best way to move), then take a look at some of these creative ways to stay organized and make your packing (and unpacking) as easy as possible.

Color code and number boxes. Put colors and numbers on a floor plan of your new house, so the moving crew will know where to put your things when they arrive.
Put cotton balls in your makeup compacts. The cotton will give them some extra padding so they (hopefully) won’t break.
Use trash bags to keep hanging clothes together.
Use two fitted sheets to protect your mattress on the top and bottom.
Keep a separate tote that will hold things you want to go with you.
Keep track of moving expenses, some are tax deductible.
Roll your clothes, you can pack more.
Put labels on the side of your boxes, not the top.
Use zip lock bags to hold screws.
Take a picture of the back of your TV and computer to know where the cords should go.
Use toilet paper rolls to organize your cords.
Twist and lock hand soap bottles.
Know what you can’t move (see “what movers won’t move”).
Defrost your fridge 2-3 days before moving day.
Donate perishable food to Move for Hunger (usually the moving company will take it to a local food shelter)
