3 Fun Holiday Traditions to Do With the Family
As you are planning your move to Milwaukee during this holiday season, you might want to take advantage of the new location to plan some new holiday traditions with your family. In between making lists, packing, and calling a Milwaukee mover, schedule some time to celebrate the holidays with your family.
1. Exchange names, and have each family member make a gift for their selected person. This is a special way to minimize the cost of gifts, and to make things special with handmade gifts. It can be something like a story or poem, a letter, or homemade cocoa mix or cookies. If you are an especially crafty family, maybe you will sew, paint, or knit for each other.
2. Make it a tradition to make a gingerbread house together. This can be done in one of two ways. Either you can study how Martha Stewart does it (homemade everything!) or you can buy a kit. With the kit, you don’t even have to use icing to put it together. If it is just for looks, and not to be eaten, you can put the walls together with hot glue, and make the whole process faster and easier. Let the children help shop for candies that will be the roof, door, and windows.
2. Buy some gifts for the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. This year, they are partnering with JC Penny stores, and you can find more information at http://www.jcp.com/angel. Choose a child to support as a family, or if you can, choose one child for each of your children. Take the family shopping for special gifts for this child. Set a budget, and let the children make some decisions about what they will buy.
Before your Milwaukee mover arrives, try to spend some time forging new traditions with your family. They will remember it for years to come.
