Moving to Milwaukee: East Town Neighborhood Review
March 13, 2012
The decision to move to a new city is a big one, and there is a lot to consider. Unless you are being transferred, there is the task of finding a new job. For children, you must find new schools. And one of the biggest decisions is where to live. There is not simply the task of choosing the right house; it needs to be in the right place. Before you call your Milwaukee mover, take a look at East Town, a vital downtown community with a lot going for it.
East Town is the area of downtown east of the Milwaukee River, with Clybourn Street on the south, Ogden Avenue to the north, and extending to Lake Michigan on the east.
East Town has a neighborhood association, established in the 1960s, which watches over the growth and the quality of the area’s features. It has improved the health of the business community by collaborating with over 200 businesses and 100 residents.
In East Town, you can enjoy the Riverwalk, the lakeshore, shopping, dining, plenty of entertainment, major cultural institutions, and a walkable street-scape of dense, narrow streets.
The East Town Association produces many events including the East Town Market, Jazz in the Park, and the Parisian-style Bastille Days, some of which are located in downtown Milwaukee’s Cathedral Square Park.
In East Town you will find modern skyscrapers, like the Northwestern Mutual Life Complex and Milwaukee’s tallest building, the U.S. Bank Center. These reside in the eastern portion of the neighborhood. Two condominium developments have been recently built in the northern section of the neighborhood. You can also find remnants from Milwaukee’s earliest days in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and Old St. Mary’s Church.
If this community sounds like the city-life you are looking for, call your Milwaukee mover and let them know your destination is decided.
